About

Jonathan Desjardins Mallette emphasizes a disciplined, pragmatic legal approach.  He is specialized in matters of constitutional, administrative and educational law.  His areas of practice include matters of copyright, access to information, civil liability and construction law.

Jonathan was a research lawyer for two years alongside a judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal (2001-2003).   Thereafter, he worked in civil, administrative and education law until 2004 when he joined a school board. At the same time, he completed his Master’s degree at the Université de Montréal in 2007.  His Master’s thesis, entitled La constitutionnalisation de la juridiction inhérente au Canada : origines et fondements, has been cited by both the Supreme Court of Canada and the Quebec Court of Appeal.  Finally, he held the position of Secretary General and Director of Corporate Affairs and Communication Services at the Commission scolaire de la Seigneurie-des-Mille-Îles from 2009 until August 2017, when he joined our firm.

He has acquired a solid reputation in the milieu of school boards wherein he worked for more than 10 years.  More particularly, he was the Chair of the General Secretaries Table of Laval, Laurentides and de Lanaudière School Boards. He was also part of various committees evaluating various legislative implications on the school boards and their facilities. (Loi sur l’instruction publique, Entente multisectorielle, Loi sur l’accès aux documents des organismes publics, Loi sur la protection de la jeunesse). Over the years, he acted as lecturer and trainer on topics dealing with copyright law within the educational environment and on the changes to the Loi sur l’instruction publique aux secrétaires généraux for the Association québécoise des cadres scolaire (AQCS).

In addition to his legal expertise, his management experience allows him to assess the legal and policy implications of the situations at hand and to recommend concrete and realistic solutions to his clients.  His mastery of various areas of law, his keen political savvy and his ability to simplify matters, make him a well-rounded attorney.  Jonathan can support his clients throughout all stages of a file.
