About
A member of the Management Committee, Jonathan Desjardins-Mallette is partner in charge of the public and administrative law sector. He specializes in public law, particularly constitutional and administrative law, as well as education, health and collective action law. His areas of expertise also include procurement (calls for tenders, Public Bodies Contracts Act), access to information, civil liability, copyright and construction.
From 2001 to 2003, Jonathan clerked for a judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal. He then practiced civil, administrative and school law, before joining a school board (or school service center) in 2004. He completed his master's degree in 2007 at Université de Montréal, where his thesis, La constitutionnalisation de la juridiction inhérente au Canada : origines et fondements, was cited by the Supreme Court of Canada and the Quebec Court of Appeal. Prior to joining our firm in August 2017, Jonathan held the position of Secretary General and Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Commission scolaire (or Centre de services scolaires) de la Seigneurie-des-Mille-Îles. He became a partner with the firm in 2021.
With recognized expertise in the education sector, Jonathan chaired the Table des secrétaires généraux des commissions scolaires des régions de Laval, des Laurentides et de Lanaudière. He has also participated in various committees on legislative implications affecting school boards (or school service centers) and their establishments. At the same time, he has provided training on a variety of subjects, including copyright in schools, public tenders and educational services for handicapped students.
His dual legal and management experience enables him to assess the legal and political dimensions of the issues he deals with, and to propose concrete, appropriate solutions. His versatility, political acumen and ability to communicate in layman's terms are invaluable assets in supporting his clients in all facets of their cases.
